I am an Artist, Theologian, and Social Activist who approaches the creative through the avenues of spiritual discipline and vocation.
I have obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration and Design from the Kansas City Art Institute (1990); and a Ph.D. in Art and Theology from the Graduate Theological Union (2K8).
In addition, I have worked as a professional Illustrator, Art Teacher, and a Graphic Designer.
I have been affiliated with the Society for Theological Aesthetics (2K8-2K9), the Northern CA Artsits Guild (2K4-2k5), and the International Association of Visual Artists ((1992-1994).
I currently serve as a Commissioner on the Oakland Cultural Affairs Commission (2K10).
I work primarily in three mediums: Watercolor, Pastel, and Scrtachboard with some occassional mixed media images which combining the three.
I prefer to work on at a relatively scale (no larger than 20x30) because I find that a smaller image creates a deeper sense of intimacy between the work and the viewer.
My imagery is based primarily upon ideas, feelings, or concepts which I attempt to express visually through the use of fresh symbols and metaphors. This approach utilizes not only the image, but the surface itself as a part of the creation. I see myself more as the creator of visual narrative(s) which have their own story to impart.
